Hurricane Season Less Active Than Anticipated As Peak Approaches

Tuesday is the statistical peak of the Atlantic hurricane season, and so far there have only had five named storms.

Meteorologist-in-Charge of the National Weather Service Miami, Robert Molleda, thinks he may know why this hurricane season isn't panning out to be above average as initially predicted by many experts. "All these favorable, or what we call conditions that are conducive for storms to form, they really need to be in place. And there's even a one or a couple of things that maybe aren't quite lining up, it could have an impact."

He warns, there's a lot of the season left, and the tropical waters are warm, plus the winds are favorable for development.

The National Hurricane Center is currently monitoring five disturbances, but all have low probabilities of developing over the next week. Normally at this time of year there have been seven named storms.
