As you know by now, Daryle passed away this morning at the age of 46. The country music world, all of Daryle's fans, and mostly, Daryle's friends and family are still in shock and disbelief.
Daryle's last show as this past weekend in Lafayette, Louisiana at Cowboy's nightclub. Keep in mind that he performed this song thousands of times over the years. Johnny Paycheck was awestruck by his version of it before he passed away back in 2003.
I think Rolling Stone magazine said it best:
"Although rarely afforded the acclaim he deserved in his lifetime, Singletary's recordings were an unabashed throwback to country music's golden age, when singers imbued their material with emotional gravitas and an intense protection of the country tradition."
Given the news of Daryle's passing, I think it makes this past Saturday night's performance of "Old Violin" that much more poignant:
