A woman from Missouri went into labor while shopping at a Walmart in Springfield. The woman told Jessica Hinkle, the store's manager, that her water broke. Hinkle grabbed a sheet and set it up in the toilet paper aisle to give the woman some privacy.
A nurse happened to be in the store and assisted firefighters with delivering the woman's baby.
"We were like, what do we do now?" Hinkle told KYTV. "Another lady comes around the corner, and she says 'I'm a labor nurse, can I help?' and we said, 'Yes, yes, please.' She had gloves in her pocket [and] she was ready."
A crowd of customers gathered and offered words of encouragement for the woman. Hinkle did her best to keep the group back and give the unidentified woman privacy.
"Crowd control, [I'm] not like the best with blood, so that was my job, holding the sheet and crowd control, making sure that nobody invaded what privacy the poor lady still had," Hinkle said.
After 45 minutes in labor, the woman gave birth to her child as the crowd cheered.
"They took her out on the gurney, there were customers of course gathered [and] she kind of raised her hand, everyone clapped for her," Hinkle said.
Hinkle said she spoke with the woman, who told her that both she and her baby are doing well.
"You know a feel-good moment, everybody's going through so much, and with a baby, it's like everything comes full circle," Hinkle said.
