Native American Tribe Will Cover Funeral Costs For All AL Tornado Victims

So far, a couple of corporations had offered to cover the costs of funerals for victims of the tornadoes that killed 23 people in Alabama, but now we know who the generous offer is from. A Native American tribe says it will pay for funeral and burial expenses for all of the victims.

The Poarch Band of Creek Indians tribe will donate $184,000 to cover the costs, according to Lee County coroner Bill Harris. The amount is more than the tribe originally agreed to pay, but it kicked in more after another donor who was supposed to split the costs backed out of the deal. When Harris explained the situation to the tribe, they agreed to pay for all of it.

"My goal was to be able to provide what the families wanted" for "this casket or this service without having to scrimp because they didn't have the money," Harris explains. "These folks have stepped up for a community need, and I appreciate that."

Very gracious of them!
